Beginner Adult Tennis Instruction: Highland

This four-week program for beginners introduces and reinforces fundamental tennis techniques.

Belly Aerobics

This class offers a fun, low-impact workout that incorporates belly dance movements including warm-up, stretching and toning with light weight dumbbells and stretch bands.

BioBlitz

Grab your field guides and boots and join BREC naturalists and local scientists as we document the diversity of life, or “biodiversity”, of Hooper Rd. Park. This is a full 24-hour event starting on Friday and extending to Saturday, and this year, we are inviting schools to join us all day on Friday. The goal is to search on land and water to find and identify as many species as humanly possible. You can participate by signing up to help document species with the help of scientists or by attending a scheduled hike, were we will host special activities for kids and families to learn through hands-on sampling, live animal encounters and more! This boot camp class targets major muscle groups by using a circuit-style routine. These routines will definitely jump-start your cardio fitness, while creating and toning muscles through exercises using your own body weight, dumbbells and exercise bands.

This program addresses some of the major wellness components needed for optimal health. These areas include strength, flexibility, balance, cognition and nutrition.

Canasta

Meet new friends or bring a group with you to compete in a fun game of cards. Canasta is a multiple player "rummy" style card game.

Canoe Camping

Join BREC’s Outdoor Adventure crew as we pack up our canoes and set out on our next adventure at Chicot State Park. Participants will ride out to Chicot State Park, where we will unload our canoes, and paddle out on the water. We will camp out on the lake and that evening enjoy a traditional backcountry meal. In the morning, we’ll pack up and paddle back to base. Come with a partner or we will happily pair you with a new friend.

Catholic Charities Day

Learn from the professionals how to take control of your health in the kitchen. Nutrition and health professionals will give engaging presentations, offer fun games and other activities, all with your health in mind. Each session ends with a delicious, nutritional meal.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a worldwide celebration and a Baton Rouge favorite. We invite you to celebrate the Mexican holiday with authentic food, great music, children’s village, arts and crafts, information vendors, family games and more in a beautiful setting.

Clay Creations

A basic hand building class for beginners. Artist Terri Kennedy will introduce basic clay hand building techniques and students will create several finished fired pieces over the 4 class periods.

Community Egg Hunt: Forest

Gather up the family for BREC’s community egg hunts packed with fun and exciting activities for everyone. This will include themed recreational games, arts and crafts, visits from the Easter Bunny and much more.
