Big Kids Movie in the Park: Avengers Infinity War

Are you an adult looking for a night out with no kids so YOU can be a kid in the park? Parents, want to catch a movie but got no babysitter? Then this night is calling your name! Bring your kids, dressed as their favorite Super Hero, for games & activities with us, while you enjoy the movie!

Birds and Beyond

BREC Conservation and Outdoor Adventure are joining forces to offer you a great birding adventure! Join BREC naturalists and local bird experts on a journey to see all that our local waterways have to offer! You will get the full safari experience by kayak on the lower Amite River, where you can view our parish’s different habitats and wildlife. Birds will be the focus, but no creature is off limits as we explore the food chain that supports local bird communities. Participants are expected to have basic paddling skills. This event is weather dependent and registration is limited to kayak availability.

BREC BMX Racing League

Participants enroll in a five-week season, which includes instruction and racing, each week, in their very own beginners-only environment. The one-time, all-inclusive tuition provides racers with a jersey, number plate, end-of-season award party, and free use of loaner bikes and helmets. BMX Racing League is designed to provide new families with the all the tools, knowledge and enjoyment they need to love our sport.

BREC-A-Boo: Forest

Fly over on a broom or float like a ghost, just don’t be tardy to the party! All ages, come dressed in your costume of choice, and be prepared to load up on ghouls of fun and recreational experiences. There will be a children’s village for ages 8 and under to experience Halloween themed carnival games, character visits, arts and crafts, as well as karaoke in the amphitheater. For those who dare, the guided Haunted Hike will begin at dusk for $3 per person. The guided hike is recommended for ages 8 and older and if under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult. At 7 p.m., we will gather all for a costume contest, so make sure your costume will impress the judges. If you leave your snacks at home, do not fear - food vendors will be near, for purchase.

Hone your competitive nature and make new friends with BREC’s Bridge program. Bridge is a four player trick-taking card game, where two competing teams have partners sitting opposite each other.

This program addresses some of the major wellness components needed for optimal health. These areas include strength, flexibility, balance, cognition and nutrition.

Meet new friends or bring a group with you to compete in a fun game of cards. Canasta is a multiple player "rummy" style card game.

Career Ready

Designed to teach students how to prepare for careers, education and life experiences in a creative way.

Catholic Charities Day

Learn from the professionals how to take control of your health in the kitchen. Nutrition and health professionals will give engaging presentations, offer fun games and other activities, all with your health in mind. Each session ends with a delicious, nutritional meal.

Computer Class: Belfair

If you want to learn how to use a computer, then this easy-to-follow class is designed specifically for you. We will cover basic computer concepts, how to use a mouse, how to use the keyboard and how to customize your system. Students will also learn how to send emails, navigate a web browser and safeguard against malware. Students may bring in their own laptops/tablets or use one of our desktops. Step-by-step instructions are provided and no prior computer knowledge is required, but having a home computer to enjoy what we learn would be beneficial. This class is taught on PCs and is not suitable for Apple users.

Conservation Volunteer Training

Come join our volunteer force and help us make a greener, healthier East Baton Rouge Parish! We are looking for individuals who are interested in being trained in conservation management and educational outreach in order to help us achieve our goals. We need volunteers who are interested in working with us consistently throughout the year and benefit from the many perks of being a volunteer like getting to spend time outdoors, knowing you are creating healthier ecosystems and other perks like t-shirts, water bottles and tax breaks. Volunteers who complete this training will be eligible to be in our official training force capable of working in the field without our supervision.

Creative Expressions in Clay

Join Baton Rouge Gallery Artist Member and Ceramicist, Christopher Brumfield, for personalized clay hand building classes this fall. Instruction will cover all aspects of the creative journey of an art piece, from design inception to final glazing. September classes will create dishware and plate ware while October classes will create a nature inspired decorative piece. All levels of experience are welcome.
