BREC Cancels Weekend Egg Hunts, Teen Movie Night and League Play
With the health and safety of the community its top priority and in accordance with federal, State and local officials recommendations to cancel large public and private events, BREC is announcing the cancelation of the Flashlight Egg Hunts planned at Highland Road Community Park tonight and at Zachary Community Park on Saturday, as well as Saturday’s Teen Movie Night at Anna T. Jordan Community Park. All weekend league play will also be canceled. BREC has also worked closely with the promoter of a large private event which was to take place at Independence Park Theatre on Saturday and Sunday. The event will be rescheduled to a later date.
Should any further cancelations be necessary, BREC will post them on its website on the COVID-19 information page at: http://www.brec.org/index.cfm/page/covid19 and on its main Facebook and Twitter pages. In the meantime, BREC is following all CDC guidelines including the provision of soap and hand sanitizer for visitors and instructing staff members to clean hard surfaces at all indoor facilities with disinfectant numerous times a day. Those guidelines can also be found on BREC’s website.
“The health and wellness of this community is our top priority and we want to make sure we’re doing our part to assist in slowing the spread of the virus. We will continue to monitor this situation closely while providing safe and clean spaces where the public can remain active and reap the many benefits of being outdoors,” said BREC Superintendent Corey K. Wilson. “Please continue to follow the recommendations from health officials and wash your hands frequently with soap and water and hand sanitizer, practice social distancing by limiting physical contact such as handshakes and hugs, coughing and sneezing into your elbow and staying home if you feel sick,” Wilson said.
As of now, the Baton Rouge Zoo and BREC’s six golf courses will remain open this weekend and all BREC parks will be open for normal recreational activity.
