Highland Road Park Observatory Hosts American Radio Relay League Field Day
Highland Road Park Observatory, 13800 Highland Road, invites you to take part in the "original social medium," ham radio communication, on Sat., June 27 from 2-10 p.m. for American Radio Relay League Field Day.
The Baton Rouge Amateur Radio Club returns to Highland Road Park Observatory to teach the joys and importance of ham radio in communication and emergency situations. Participants can learn how to send your name in Morse code, contact "hams" in other states, and find out how to obtain your own transmitting license in this great hobby that is over 100 years old!
Officially, Field Day is a 24-hour exciting nationwide emergency exercise with temporary stations set up at HRPO as BRARC joins similar clubs across the continent using a mix of battery, solar and low power outputs to make contact with stations all over North America. HRPO is opening this unique experience to the public from 2-10 p.m. free of charge.
For more information, call the observatory at 225-768-9948 or visit hrpo.lsu.edu/programs/arrl.html.
HRPO is sponsored by BREC, LSU's Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Baton Rouge Astronomical Society.
