It's All in the Family

There are a lot of great reasons for getting your family involved in more fitness activities. Take the time that you used to use to go to the gym and exercise with your family at BREC's Early Bird Family Fun and Fitness program. This new neighborhood-oriented exercise program developed by BREC Recreation, in partnership with BREC Tennis and The First Tee of East Baton Rouge Parish, will begin on Aug. 29 from 9-11 a.m. at BREC's Antioch Blvd. Park, 6229 Antioch Blvd.

The purpose of BREC's Early Bird Family Fun and Fitness program is to provide interactive activities for parents and their children, while focusing on non-competitive cooperation and sharing.  Activities include a family warm-up walk and stretching exercises followed by visits to different stations, including an inflatable obstacle course, a 20-inch slide, golf chipping, tennis targets, relay races, soccer shootout, and much more.

Participants will also discuss health, fitness and nutrition information as well as enjoy healthy snacks and door prizes.  Sponsors include Varsity Sports, Dream Silkscreen, Baton Rouge General Healthy Heartbeats, and the LSU Department of Kinesiology.

Future programs are slated for Highland Road Park on Jan. 9, 2010, Mayfair Park on Feb. 20, 2010 and Drusilla Park on Feb. 27, 2010. BREC will introduce this program to other parks in East Baton Rouge Parish this spring.

For more information, please contact Ben McGuire at (225) 272-9200 ext. 435.

It is the BREC mission to provide parks and recreational opportunities for all the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish.
