BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, presents "The Story of Louisiana's Prehistoric Animals" on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 11 a.m.-noon in MMP's Hart House.

Dr. Judith A. Schiebout, curator at Louisiana State University Museum of Natural Science, Division of Vertebrate Paleontology, will discuss how much of Louisiana was under water at the beginning of the Age of Mammals. She will highlight the whale Basilosaurus, the most spectacular vertebrate, which had a four-foot long skull and a set of prominent teeth that helped in catching fish.

In the middle of the Age of Mammals, giant camels, three-toed horses, rhinos and small elephants were among the land animals in central Louisiana. During the Ice Ages, saber-toothed tigers, mastodons and giant sloths roamed the state along with more familiar mammals such as bison, deer, wolves and bears.

Limited seating is available. For more information and to reserve a spot, please call 225-343-4955.

It is the BREC mission to provide parks and recreational opportunities for all citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish.
