BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation Presents its Lectures at the Mound Series for October 2009
BREC's Magnolia Mound Plantation (MMP), 2161 Nicholson Drive, presents its Lectures at the Mound Series for October 2009 in MMP's Hart House from 11 a.m.-noon each Saturday.
Lectures will detail the archaeological, historical and paleontological studies conducted by some of Louisiana's best and brightest. Subjects will include recent archaeological investigations at various sites in the state, the paleontological history of Louisiana, and research into the Digest of 1808-the codified legal system based on French, Spanish and Roman traditions.
Presentations will be in partnership with the Louisiana State Division of Archaeology and their annual Louisiana Archaeology Month, the Louisiana State University Department of Geography and Anthropology, the Louisiana State University Center of Civil Law Studies, and the Louisiana State Board of Regents "Speaking of Science" program.
Lecturers will include: Olivier Moreteau, Russell B. Long Eminent Scholars Academic Chair and director of the Center of Civil Law Studies at Louisiana State University School of Law, Oct. 8; Dr. Judith A. Schiebout, curator at the Louisiana State University Museum of Natural Science Division of Vertebrate Paleontology, Oct. 14; Dr. Rob Mann, southeast regional archaeologist at the Louisiana State University Department of Geography and Anthropology, Oct. 21; and Dr. Chip McGimsey, state archaeologist and director at the Louisiana State Division of Archaeology, Oct. 28.
