09.02.10 - Therapeutic Riding Program Improves Strength and Confidence
BREC's Farr Park Equestrian Center, 6400 River Road, is offering four, six-week therapeutic riding sessions beginning Sept. 13. Hearts and Hooves program provides equine-oriented activities for the purpose of contributing to the cognitive, physical, emotional and social well-being of people with disabilities.

Enjoy health and wellness with your entire family at BREC's Family Fun and Fitness on Aug. 28 from 9-11 a.m. at Antioch Park, 6229 Antioch Blvd. The purpose of this program is to introduce families to an innovative way that gets them involved in fitness activities together.

BREC's Athletics Department hosts organizational meetings for its men's, women's and co-ed fall softball leagues on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at Independence Park Recreation Center, 7505 Independence Blvd. The men's and women's league meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by the co-ed league meeting at 7:15 p.m. The mens 50 + league meeting takes place on Aug. 25 at 6:30 at Independence Park.

BREC invites families and friends to view the Perseid meteor shower on Thursday, Aug. 12 from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Highland Road Park Observatory, 13800 Highland Road.

08.09.10 - BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo Hosts Sixth annual Zoo Zoom 5K Aug. 28
It's time to sprint, gallop and trot to the finish line at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo in hopes to claim the much-coveted ostrich egg trophy. Join Club South Runners at the zoo for its sixth annual Zoo Zoom 5K on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 8:15 a.m. The day also includes a children's 1/2-mile fun run at 7:45 a.m., so the whole family can participate. Registration may be done by mail or on race day beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Come one, come all to BREC's Kids Quickstart Tennis Karnival! On Monday, June 1, BREC, the Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge, invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for BRECs Forest Community Park, 13900 S. Harrell's Ferry Rd., located just south of Millerville Rd. and Interstate 12. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. in the grassy area in the center of the park where the road splits to a one-way loop.
