Open House & Student Horse Show

You’re invited to Farr Park’s Open House event! Enjoy free activities including a petting zoo, concessions, games, prizes, barn tours, hay rides and riding demonstrations. Make sure to stick around as our riding students compete in both English and Western classes.

Come visit, if you dare, as HRPO’s ninth annual family-friendly tribute to the bizarre and freakish takes place. We’ll delve into the eerie side of astronomy, physics and aeronautics with creepy science demonstrations, some of which we've never used. And don't forget the campfire stories.

Uranus is exactly 180 degrees from the Sun, rising as the Sun is setting. We are now the closest we’ll be to Uranus this year! Weather permitting viewing of Uranus will take place. For all ages.

Pumpkin Paddle Parade

Get in the Halloween spirit by paddling in the dark along the shoreline of the University Lakes or watching the light show from the beach! For this fourth annual event, participants bring a voluntary contribution of nonperishable goods for the Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Swamp Haunted Hikes

Bluebonnet Swamp’s Haunted Hikes are designed especially for younger children as an alternative to teen and adult-centric commercial haunted houses. Spooky Storytime and make-and-take crafts are offered in the Education Building. Trek through the Swamp Graveyard Maze to get to our Crazy Carnival Games and face-painting station.

Halloween Movie Night

Come relax on the lawn at Farr Park with your family while we screen a Halloween thriller! First, take a hayride through our haunted park. Popcorn will be provided. Snacks and other treats will be available for purchase. Hay rides will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the movie will run from 7:30-9:30 p.m. Costumes encouraged!

Zombie 5k Fun Run

Run to stay alive! Runners not only have to make it to the end of the course, but will have to avoid the undead as they try to take your lives before you can get to safety at the finish line. Help us fill the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank bins by bringing canned goods to donate.

Natural Sky Conference

We inadvertently block our view of the sky, using a curtain of dust particles illuminated by badly-designed streetlamps and other nighttime fixtures. This conference will be aimed at those individuals and organizations in town that have a direct ability to squelch the light pollution in the area.

Come help us create an established hiking trail at Manchac Rd. Park. We need volunteers willing to cut, saw, rake and blaze through the forest along the marked path.
