One of BREC's main focuses is to develop progamming that helps families and children stay active outdoors. Join a class as a family or attend one of our many community events for a day of family fun. Check out our camps in the summer and on school holidays, which aim to keep children active while they are away from school. Also during the summer months, families can enjoy several swimming pools and the Liberty Lagoon Aquatic Center.

Nature Explorers Virtual Club

Do you have a budding biologist, seasoned scientist, or an avid mud-pie enthusiast at home? Nature Explorers Virtual Club is the adventure for you! After the success of our virtual camp we want to keep the fun going and are happy to present the nature explorers virtual club! This once a week club will dive into month long themes and explore concepts related to the world around us with virtual nature hikes through BREC Conservation areas, live animal encounters, active outdoor explorations, games, challenges, and much more! Join our enthusiastic naturalists for a themed month of adventure, engagement, and socialization.

Youth Tennis Smash

Looking for a fun Saturday activity for your child? Then join BREC Tennis for a free tennis extravaganza at BREC’s Youth Tennis Smash on Oct. 3 from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. At BREC’s Youth Tennis Smash, BREC will give your child a free tennis racquet, balls, a lunch, and lesson thanks to a partnership with the Greater Baton Rouge Tennis Association.

Youth 360

Are you looking for an after-school program that will bring your child from their school to their local recreation center? Youth 360 works with the local school systems to make this happen. This program is designed to provide learning through a recreational curriculum to include 360 degrees of nutritional snacks, homework time, socialization, arts and crafts, guest speakers and activities to include health and wellness. This program follows the local school schedules. The program begins October 5. Please contact your local center for specific instructions on transportation changes or requests.

  • BREC Hosts Family Friendly Halloween Events

    The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge (BREC) will host several Halloween events throughout the month of October at various parks and facilities throughout the parish. These events will be safe spaces for children and families to enjoy holiday themed activities and treats.

  • BREC Partners with Three O’clock Project to Help Feed School Children

    With schools across East Baton Rouge Parish closed to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the non-profit Three O’clock Project will visit 25 BREC parks daily to provide free, nutritious meals to at-risk children.

  • BREC Hosts Easter Activities Throughout the Parish

    Hop into the holiday season with BREC as we host a variety of Easter themed activities throughout the parish for all ages and abilities. This year will include surprising new twists that you do not want to miss!
