BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo Announces Record Attendance for Annual Event

Boo at the Zoo, presented by Crawfish Aquatics/Exerfit, experienced record numbers in 2010 with 31,212 people in attendance. BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo's annual merry, not scary, trick-or-treating event took place Oct. 16, 17, 23 and 24.

"The attendance at Boo at the Zoo is a credit to the great planning, volunteers and visitors that keep coming back year after year," said Zoo Director Phil Frost. "Our event also offers parents an alternative to trick-or-treating at night. Boo at the Zoo is one of the most popular Halloween events year after year, and we work hard to make sure it gets better every year; whether it's different decorations or a new attraction, like Realm of the Tiger, there is always something new at the Zoo."

Attendance for Boo at the Zoo is trending upward with 28,787 people in 2008, 30,778 in 2009 and 31,212 in 2010.

The Zoo plans to continue its Halloween festivities this weekend. Keepers will give several animals pumpkins and the public gets to watch. Some pumpkins are filled with treats for the animals, and for other animals, the pumpkin is the treat. Visitors may observe this animal enrichment Saturday, Oct. 30 and Sunday, Oct. 31.

Discover the animal kingdom at BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. Visitors can enjoy the new Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo's Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.
