Zoo hosts “wild” family events in April

BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo is a great place to visit this spring to enjoy the beautiful weather outdoors. See below for April events.


Zippity Zoo Fest – April 2 & 3

BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo will hold its annual spring festival, Zippity Zoo Fest on Saturday, April 2, and Sunday, April 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Zoo grounds close at 6 p.m. Celebrate the Zoo’s birthday with a children’s village, education stations, a food court and animal encounters. We also have a rock wall for the adventurous visitors and no festival is complete without face painting or a ride on our Cypress Bayou Railroad. Don’t miss Wildlife Safari Amphitheatre shows where you get up-close to our feathered, slimy and furry friends. Regular Zoo admission applies. or 225.775.3877 for more information.


Spring Zoo Camp

What could be more fun during spring break holiday than hanging out with the animals? Spring is a great time to visit the Zoo and learn what being a naturalist is all about. These young explorers will use their imaginations and learn skills to find animal homes, track animals and discover how plants and animals survive in the natural world. These age-appropriate, engaging, down-in-the-dirt activities provide a wonderful foundation for future learning and experience in the great outdoors. Register at 225.775.3877 Option 2.

Fee is $100/week per child ($120 out-of-parish)

Early drop off 7:30 a.m. and late pick up until 5:30 p.m. no additional fee

Party for the Planet

Join BREC's Baton Rouge Zoo on April 16 for a day filled with animal and earth-friendly activities including Wildlife Safari Amphitheater programs, games and crafts will help children learn why certain species are in trouble. Zoo & Me Morning

Register for Zoo & Me Mornings held at BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo, 3601 Thomas Road, on the second Tuesday of every month.  This program is designed for 3-5 year-old children accompanied by a parent or guardian. Programs are from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and incorporate many exciting activities including a train ride, animal encounters, art projects, “Zooper” snacks and many other hands-on projects that you and your child can enjoy together. Cost is $18 per child with one parent or guardian or $30 per two children with one parent or guardian.  April 12 theme: EGGstravaganza. Pre-registration required. Call 225-775-3877.


Safari Night

The Baton Rouge Zoo hosts Safari Nights every Friday and Saturday night. Have you ever wondered what the zoo is like at night? Safari Night programs offer insight into the night life of the zoo. Bring your sleeping bag, lots of curiosity and discover the zoo at night!  We can accommodate up to 30 persons with a 15 person minimum. Please have at least two adults for every 10 children. Participants arrive at 6:30 p.m. Your safari guide leads your group on walking tours of different parts of the zoo. You'll learn all about the zoo’s animals through hands-on activities and animal encounters. All participants receive a Safari Night T-shirt. Your adventure ends at 9:30 a.m. the next morning, after you enjoy a continental breakfast and the experience of serving breakfast to a zoo animal.  Cost is $28 per person.  Have a smaller group? BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo is a place where people connect with animals, including elephants, giraffes, rhinos and alligators. The world-class Realm of the Tiger is now open featuring highly endangered tigers, Siamang gibbons and beautiful Asian birds. Visitors can enjoy the new Flamingo Cove and Giants of the Islands, featuring the Zoo’s Chilean flamingos and Galapagos and Aldabra tortoises, as well as the Safari Playground, the Otter Pond, our exhibit featuring a replicated fishing cabin with underwater viewing of the otters, L'aquarium de Louisiane, Parrot Paradise and KidsZoo. Adults and children can ride the Cypress Bayou Railroad on a scenic ride through the unique Louisiana habitat that surrounds the core Zoo. The Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Look for the AZA logo whenever you visit a zoo or aquarium as your assurance that you are supporting a facility dedicated to providing excellent care for animals, a great experience for you and a better future for all living things.
