Remember and Reflect: 9/11 Memorial Dedication at Blackwater Conservation Area
EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH—Blackwater United Methodist Church Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will line BREC's Blackwater Conservation Area with 2,977 American flags in memory of individuals lost 10 years ago in the 9/11 attacks Friday, Sept. 9.
As Baton Rouge's only permanent memorial, Blackwater Conservation Area invites the public to quietly and personally reflect upon what it means to be an American and pay tribute to the victims of the attack from sunrise to sunset.
The flags will line a mile-long path surrounding the area until Monday, Sept. 12.
The scout and troops' efforts ensure that future generations will remember the sacrifices made on Sept. 11, 2001. On behalf of BREC, we would like to thank Cub Scout Pack 13, Boy Scout Troop 13 and Girl Scout Troop 10036 for their efforts to make the 10th anniversary of 9/11 a truly commemorative community event.
It is BREC's mission to provide parks and recreational opportunities for all residents of East Baton Rouge Parish.
