BREC Closes Facilities Due to Inclement Weather - Jan. 28 & 29
The Recreation and Park Commission for the Parish of East Baton Rouge will close all parks and facilities and postpone all programs scheduled for Tues., Jan. 28 and Wed., Jan 29. Since the forecasts over the next 24 to 48 hours of hazardous weather and road conditions are predicted to be much worse than the ice storm that closed many roads and bridges and led to hundreds of accidents last week, BREC will follow the lead of East Baton Rouge City-Parish authorities and ask that all staff members stay off of the roadways. Therefore, BREC will not offer school closure camps during this weather event.
BREC Superintendent Carolyn McKnight will monitor the weather and road conditions and make a determination on whether it is safe to resume normal operating hours on Thurs, Jan 30.
Essential personnel will remain on call if maintenance or other pressing issues in parks and facilities must be immediately addressed.
The cancellations include strategic planning meetings which were scheduled to be held at Highland Road, Church Street and Hamilton Parks on Tues, Jan 28. BREC will notify the public when the meetings are rescheduled in order to give residents in these areas the opportunity to participate in the development of the Imagine Your Parks 2 strategic planning process.
