BREC to Close All Facilities Monday, June 8
East Baton Rouge Parish—BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson announced that all BREC facilities will close Monday, June 8 due to Tropical Storm Cristobal. Employees responsible for the care and feeding of animals and those who must check on and secure property will report to work. All summer camps will be canceled.
The Superintendent and BREC staff will continue working closely with Parish and State officials to monitor the storm and its impact on the system.
BREC has created a virtual portal to allow people who must remain at home to experience the park system through videos, activity sheets and partner virtual experiences. It can be found at brec.org/Refresh.
BREC is the agency that connects people to parks and nature in East Baton Rouge Parish. It is a political subdivision of the state of Louisiana created in 1946 to develop, maintain and operate public park and recreational facilities. Throughout its 74-year history, BREC has taken seriously its responsibility to improve the health, safety, environment and quality of life for all citizens. BREC was among the first park agencies to earn national accreditation and recently earned reaccreditation for an unprecedented sixthh time, meeting 150 out of 151 standards. BREC is a two-time National Gold Medal Award winner and 16-time national finalist.
