Youth Programs

10 and Under Tennis Tournament (Ages 6-10) This tournament features a singles round robin format with divisions for boys and girls. Free snacks and awards for players. Junior Beginner Instruction (Ages 8 and older) Tuesdays, March 3-24, from 5-6 p.m. This four-week program introduces and reinforces fundamental tennis techniques. Walk-ins accepted. Online registration available at register.brec.org. Instructor: Eugene St. Martin.

Junior Advanced Beginner Instruction (Ages 8 and older) Wednesdays, March 4-25, from 5-6 p.m. This four-week program reinforces fundamental tennis techniques, stroke development, and conditioning for advanced beginners. Walk-ins accepted. Online registration available at register.brec.org. Instructor: Eugene St. Martin.

Pee Wee Tennis Program (Ages 3-5) Saturdays, March 7-28, from 9:15-10 a.m. A four-week program that introduces the game of tennis to younger children. Registratrion Deadline: Thursday, March 5 for all four sessions or Thursday prior to the session for an individual session. BREC Jr. Tennis Tournament (Ages 8-18) Friday-Sunday, March 20-22, at Independence and Highland Road Park Tennis Centers.  The event will feature singles divisions 10-18 and doubles divisions 12-18.  It is a non-elimination format for ages 10 and under.  $53.18 per person for singles and $13 per person for doubles.  To enter, applicants must be a USTA member.  Registration Deadline:  Sunday, March 15, at 11:59 p.m.  Registration is only available online through USTA.  To register, go to www.usta.com and use tournament number 700074120.  Doubles division has late registration until Wednesday, March 18, at 11:59 p.m.  For more information, contact Jeremiah Casson at 225-216-9264 or email at jcasson@brec.org.

Easter Junior Tennis Camp (Ages 4-17) Monday-Friday, April 13-17. This five-day camp includes tennis instruction. Full-day campers must bring their own lunch. Full day from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Half day from 9-11:30 a.m. Registration Deadline: Saturday, April 11. $10 late fee after registration deadline. Click here for registration form and more information. Online registration available at register.brec.org. Highland Park Junior Tennis Academy (Ages 5-17) A continuous year-round program. Spring semester is through May 21. Skill levels include 10 and under, beginner, advanced beginner, and intermediate. Academy operates Monday-Thursday from 4:30-6 p.m. Semester and monthly rates available. Must register 24 hours prior to attending class. Same day walk-ins will not be accepted. Strokes, Strategy and Play for Adult Intermediate Players Mondays, March 2-23, from 7-8 p.m. This four-week program reinforces stroke development, conditioning, and strategies for adult intermediate players. Show Up and Play Beginner and Intermediate Adult Round Robin meets Wednesdays, March 5-26, from 7-8:30 p.m.  FREE.  Just pay court fees.  No registration needed.

Movie-Themed Adult Tennis Mixer Friday, March 6, from 6-8:30 p.m. Come dressed as your favorite character for this movie-themed mixer. Three divisions: 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 and above. Timed doubles match play. Partners switch after each round. Gift certificates awarded to division winners, finalists, and best costume. Beginner Adult Day Tennis Program Fridays, March 6-27, from 9-10 a.m. This four-week program for adult beginners teaches the fundamentals of tennis. Must have minimum of four participants. Beginner Adult Tennis Clinic Thursday, March 12, from 9-10:30 a.m. For adults who always wanted to play tennis, but never knew where to begin. Equipment provided. FREE. Just pay court fees. 80’s-Themed Adult Tennis Mixer Friday, March 27, from 6-8:30 p.m. Come dressed in your favorite 80’s attire for this themed-mixer. Three divisions: 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5 and above.
