Independence Community Park
96.02 Acres - This park is located in the center of East Baton Rouge Parish. Independence Park serves a larger geographic area than a neighborhood park and is designed to engage the entire family for a whole day. Higher levels of maintenance, security, and recreational opportunities are offered at community parks. The perimeter of the park is lined with hundreds of American flags. It is one of BREC's most popular and busiest parks, because of the number of facilities available.
Pavilion Rental Information

The Garden Café
Opening January 2019, The Garden Café is housed in a beautiful building with large windows overlooking the bustling plaza leading to the gardens and library. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating and the menu includes a variety of hot and cold coffee drinks, smoothies, breakfast offerings, salads, soup, sandwiches and fresh baked pastries and sweets. The Garden Café is owned and operated by Darryl Johnson who is well-known in food circles in the Greater Baton Rouge area. His company SYI Food Services, Inc. is a regular at the Red Stick Farmer’s Market on Main Street in Downton Baton Rouge, operates a food truck, catering service and also provides concessions to stadiums in the area including BREC’s Memorial and Olympia Stadiums

Monday-Thursday: 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 8 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday: 1-8 p.m.
Soccer Fields and Ball Diamonds
The Baton Rouge Soccer Association manages these fields through an agreemet with BREC. Contact BRSC to learn how to utilize these soccer fields.
This playground is a great spot for children to have fun. It's a quiet space under hearty oak trees. It is also a local's favorite spot to have a peaceful lunch in the great outdoors. Picnic tables are available within the playground area.
Independence Botanical Gardens
The Independence Botanical Garden is a public garden dedicated to horticultural education, recreation and nature studies located in BREC's Independence Park. The Botanical Gardens contain displays of blooming woody ornamental plants, perennials, annuals, ground covers and wetland plants.The gardens are free to the public! Independence Park Theatre
IPT's proscenium theatre has a seating capacity of 800 with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. In addition, the theatre has two smaller conference rooms that can accommodate groups of 50-100. The theatre is available for rent by public and private schools, community organizations, corporations and individuals with discounted rates for non-profit organizations. Table Tennis: Independence
A great way to stimulate mental alertness, concentration and tactical strategy. This makes it the perfect game for seniors! Table tennis also develops mental acuity, improves reflexes, is easy on the joints, burns calories, offers a social outlet, improves balance, and stimulates various parts of the brain.
This class offers a fun, low-impact workout that incorporates belly dance movements including warm-up, stretching and toning with light weight dumbbells and stretch bands.
