We see them all over Louisiana, but what’s so special about swamps? Why should we work to keep them around and how can we protect them? Ramp up your Swamp Smarts at camp this summer to learn why it’s so important to have swamps and what we can all do to keep them healthy. Age-specific, thematic activities are developed to keep campers having fun all day long as they interact with live animals, go on outdoor hikes, play games and make unique nature crafts. Fun snacks are provided in the afternoons, but campers should bring a bag lunch and drink each day. Field trips are generally scheduled twice a week, including for Swamp Squirts sessions.
Our Swamp Counselors-in-Training program will continue with new opportunities for first-, second-, and third-year CITs to gain skills needed to work as counselors at Bluebonnet Swamp. Topics focus on camper management techniques, leadership training and activity development, as well as job seeking skills to provide valuable experience for potential employment opportunities in the future. The Swamp CIT registration fee includes four days of training (May 27-30) and one day of skill evaluation the following week (June 2-6).
