Description
This spring Saturday Morning Studio will revisit legendary folk and fairy tales that contain good advice and may even teach us a life lesson! Each month we will read and discuss a childhood tale and then create an art piece representing the story.
Jaboti Jan. 27
Join us for a morning of learning about shapes and warm and cool colors inspired by the text and illustrations in Gerald McDermott’s book, Jaboti. We will paint our interpretation
of Jaboti the turtle who teaches us everyone is individually unique.
The Lion and the Mouse Feb. 17
This month we will be inspired by Aesop’s fable, The Lion and The Mouse, using Jerry Pinkney’s wordless picture book. While discussing proportions and the use of lines we will create lions and a mouse using pencil and watercolor. Remember, there is no one so small they can’t help someone bigger!
The Grasshopper and the Ant March 9
Work before play will be our “lesson” this month. We will learn about creating sequence and telling the story through pictures as we draw the characters from the story, The Grasshopper and The Ant, from different scenes inspired by Aesop’s fable.
After the Fall April 20
After the Fall makes us contemplate what might have happened to Humpty Dumpty after his famous tumble. Inspired by text and illustrations in Dan Santa’s book we will create a 3-D mixed media Humpty and discuss his fear, anxiety, perseverance and, finally, his transformation.
