Summer is in full swing, which means so is Summer Camp here at BREC! But on top of the 30 plus camps offered weekly across EBR, we have even more going on all month that everyone to enjoy. When the sun goes down our temperatues do too so let's spend it outdoors! Bask in the delight of dusk by paddling into the sunset or gaze into twilight during the Edge of the Night. Take your movie night to the next level with two different Movies at the Lagoon or join your community for a slam dunk time at Late Night Hype. All of this and even more under the sun - this month at BREC. 

Edge of Night (Summer)

Highland Road Park Observatory

Which stars are seen first? Are Mercury, Venus or the Moon out? Is that moving object a plane, a satellite or space debris?! There is no other time like twilight. Come join HRPO as they have you look up to see how the sky is brought to life at the edge of night.

Sunset Paddle

Milford Wampold Memorial Park

Join us as we paddle into the beautiful south Louisiana sunset. This experience is perfect for youth and adults with little or abundant watercraft skills. Single and tandem kayaks are available to rent, but these spots go quickly so make sure to register in advance before the event is full.

Craft Corner at the Swamp

Looking to express yourself through some nature-themed crafts while enjoying the sights and sounds of the Swamp? Join us quarterly as we host Craft Corner and provide a variety of fun and interactive crafts for you to complete with us or take home to work on at your leisure. This program is included with your general admission.

Late Night Hype

Come out for an unforgettable late-night experience at the launching of Late Night Hype. This event is dedicated to nurturing your mind, body, and soul through a variety of community resources and basketball during untraditional hours at your neighborhood park. Take part in the 5v5 Basketball tournament (Free Agent or Team Registration available online or on-site), explore a spectrum of activities designed to enhance your mental health, spiritual well-being, and overall recreational enjoyment, engage and enjoy in art and food, immerse yourself in music, and partake in exciting and fun-filled activities. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity to connect with a vibrant community and elevate every aspect of your well being.

Movie at the Lagoon: The Little Mermaid

Enjoy a summer night with family and friends for a movie at the Lagoon during our extended hours. Grab your towels and one of our innertubes, then just sit back and relax with our movie night along with special photo ops, activities and more!

The Little Mermaid (2023): Remarkable live-action/CGI redo of the '89 Disney musical classic stars Halle Bailey as the mermaid princess Ariel, whose curiosity about the surface world and attraction to the human prince Eric (Jon Hauer-King) leads her to clash with her overprotective ocean king father (Javier Bardem)-and leaves her ripe for exploitation by the calculating sea witch Ursula (Melissa McCarthy).
