News Winter Storm Damage to BREC Facilities

Baton Rouge, LouisianaJan 24, 2025After a thorough inspection of all recreation centers following the historic winter storm, our staff has identified the following:  

The majority of BREC’s 65 recreation facilities and tennis centers were not impacted in ways that will interrupt service or operations.

Those facilities that sustained minor maintenance issues include Anna T. Jordan Community Park, Magnolia Mound and Farr Park Equestrian Center. Standard operations will not be impacted.

Unfortunately, several facilities sustained sizeable damages that will require extensive repair. Those facilities and damages include:

• Howell Community Park sustained damage to the pool deck, pump room and water fountains. Facility will likely remain closed for repairs.
• Alsen Park sustained water damage throughout the facility. Facility will likely remain closed for repairs.
• Webb Park and Sharp Road Parks were impacted with water on the walls and ceiling tiles. Some disruption to operation and daily programming may occur.
• Greenwood Community Park Waterfront and Independence Park Theatre sustained damages that are currently being rectified. Daily operations will not be impacted.
